AFTER HOURS YOU CAN FIND ME
Right now – Taking long walks around the river, dance parties in my living room, eating loads of baked beans, hosting IG Live meditations or my online YIN Therapy class.
Normally – Teaching yoga at Heart Core, planning my wedding in Bali (that’s now been postponed to September 2020), trying new restaurants (usually recommended by Sonya + Laura), travelling on weekends, soaking up as much mother nature as possible.
FAVOURITE MOTTO / PIECE OF ADVICE
You are unique and that is your power.
MOST LOVED ACTIVITY / STUDIO
I’m a big believer that the teacher makes the class. So here are a few of my favourites:
1. Xtend Barre for Catie’s Barre Classes! Her energy is contagious and leaves feeling on top of the world.
2. Move Studios for Christian + Kim’s primal flow classes. Creative, intuitive, so inspiring
3. YOGA – Lisa’s Mandala classes at Heart Core, and Mona’s YIN class at Power Living. Both make me feel so much more grounded than before the class.
4. SPIN – Can’t go past Lauren’s classes at Soul Cycle. That girl’s got vibe!
HOW ARE YOU MAKING DIFFERENCE WITH SUSTAINABILITY / WHAT SMALL CHANGES HAVE YOU IMPLEMENTED?
From recycling pretty much everything at home, to always trying to buy for life rather than for a season. I look at every single clothing label to see what the fabric contents are ( I always go for natural fibres) and also support small brands where I can. Oh and also don’t leave home without my keep cup and reusable Capital water bottle.
MEET LAURA, IN HOUSE DESIGNER
TELL US WHAT WE WOULD SEE YOU DOING AT THE HOUSE OF CAPITAL
Drawing up our newest range, fitting samples, communicating with our production team or glued to the office Nespresso Machine.
AFTER HOURS YOU CAN FIND ME
Hunting down London’s best brunch spots, seeking out green spaces and spending money I don’t have Wholefoods. But right now, having a lot of pet cuddles, virtual baking dates with my boyfriend, challenging myself to beat a PB on my daily run and trying to get to grips with some more advanced yoga inversions.
FAVOURITE MOTTO / PIECE OF ADVICE
“Through judging we separate, through understanding, we grow”
MOST LOVED ACTIVITY / STUDIO
I love anything that involves getting a real sweat on – SoulCycle, 1Rebel Ride class or Hotpod yoga Belgravia.
HOW ARE YOU MAKING DIFFERENCE WITH SUSTAINABILITY / WHAT SMALL CHANGES HAVE YOU IMPLEMENTED?
All of my design choices are centred around trying to make our product as sustainable as possible, it’s never a second thought. Be it fabric wastage on a pattern or the fabric selected to make sure it has an eco story. On a more day-to-day basis, I am never seen without a canvas bag!
MEET NICOLE, CHIEF CONTENT + MARKETING GURU
TELL US WHAT WE WOULD SEE YOU DOING AT THE HOUSE OF CAPITAL
Discussing content with our founders and team, organising events, creating newsletters and social media stories and posts, managing our samples, and generally playing the role as office DJ.
AFTER HOURS YOU CAN FIND ME
My inability to turn down and invite means I’m usually spending time with my friends and family, an art exhibition or play. Right now, Masterclass-ing my way to finer wines and storytelling. I’m enjoying more time to be closer to my family at home, book swaps and reading. Wait did no-one say Netflix? Catching up on some tv and films there.
FAVOURITE MOTTO / PIECE OF ADVICE
“Work hard and be nice to people” – it really is that simple.
MOST LOVED ACTIVITY / STUDIO
I love to see a friendly face at Hotpod Yoga Belgravia or Emma at Chelmsford. The Move Studio for a Kind by Katie Gray workout. I’ve also recently converted to SoulCycle thanks to Lauren Naomi and with the right music a 30-minute weighted workout.
HOW ARE YOU MAKING DIFFERENCE WITH SUSTAINABILITY / WHAT SMALL CHANGES HAVE YOU IMPLEMENTED?
I like to think I do a little more than just giving up plastic straws.
Choice
– Sometimes it can feel difficult to styles that fit your wardrobe’s aesthetic, so I like to consider the art of two-in-one shopping. Will I wear this forever, can I wear it in summer and winter? What will I style it with…
Research
It’s easy now for brands to market themselves as sustainable, so do your research. I remember when I was a buyer being asked to invest in vegan trainers, well most don’t biodegrade. So make sure to research your decisions.
Reuse
Refillable shampoo and conditioner bottles. For me, this has been the best adjustment. Silky smooth hair, zero silicones and I prefer how my shower looks too.
MEET SONYA, GLOBAL SALES MANAGER
TELL US WHAT WE WOULD SEE YOU DOING AT THE HOUSE OF CAPITAL
In a heated love triangle with excel and my emails, giving impromptu astrology readings, proofreading everything, strategising with the many in-house and external touchpoints we have and always making an elaborate lunch.
AFTER HOURS YOU CAN FIND ME
Now, making my way through the Table Manners Cookbook. Reading more than usual (can inc. recco’s), treating myself to Rupi Kaur’s IG live workshops and some extracurricular education with Masterclass.
Usually, with friends, always. At the park, at the pub, by the water or getting away for the weekend. Also – slowly but surely getting through my ever-growing list of places to eat in London.
FAVOURITE MOTTO / PIECE OF ADVICE
In my early twenties, I read “you don’t need to set yourself on fire to keep other people warm” and that has been my North Star ever since.
MOST LOVED ACTIVITY / STUDIO
Hotpod Yoga Belgravia. Tempo Pilates London Fields, Re: Centre Hammersmith and Re: Mind for meditation – I know what I like, and I like what I know
HOW ARE YOU MAKING DIFFERENCE WITH SUSTAINABILITY / WHAT SMALL CHANGES HAVE YOU IMPLEMENTED?
Sustainability and recycling are ingrained from growing up in New Zealand, so for me, it’s small things you can incorporate into your everyday life that leads to consistent change. At the moment, I am a jar hoarder and reuser. We reuse our many empty food jars to rehome polenta, oats, loose pens and herbs like basil. It’s simple and effective – easy.
MEET ARUNE, E-COMMERCE WHIZ
TELL US WHAT WE WOULD SEE YOU DOING AT THE HOUSE OF CAPITAL
Managing our e-commerce store, digital ads, responding to customer enquiries via email and/or phone, liaising with warehouse staff, and desperately trying to get my inbox to zero at the end of each day.
AFTER HOURS YOU CAN FIND ME
Getting together with friends, learning Spanish, exploring streets of London and casually popping into independent boutiques and galleries.
FAVOURITE MOTTO / PIECE OF ADVICE
It’s better to go 100 miles an hour in the wrong direction than cautiously in the right because action and failure are the most information-rich data streams in existence. You’ll learn very little by going slow and even less if you stand still.
MOST LOVED ACTIVITY / STUDIO
I absolutely love barre and I am yet to discover a studio in London that offers better barre classes than Xtend Barre.
HOW ARE YOU MAKING DIFFERENCE WITH SUSTAINABILITY / WHAT SMALL CHANGES HAVE YOU IMPLEMENTED?
When it comes to sustainable living, I’m by no means perfect but I do my absolute best to find ways to improve my choices as a consumer. I believe that the small changes we make on a daily basis make a big difference. I’m slowly phasing my previous “fast fashion” purchases out with the long-lasting, for-life item. Recycling is non-negotiable for me and I take it very seriously – I always read the label to make sure the item is recyclable. I’ve also started making my own non-toxic household cleaning products to use as less harmful chemicals in my home as possible.
